How to Use the Timer
Online classroom timer with alarm and fullscreen. Useful for tests, rotations, reading, cooking, and any other focus tasks.
- Set and count down: Tap a preset (1m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h...) or type a custom HH MM SS on the left and press Set. Hit Start and the readout counts down to zero. Press F or click Fullscreen to show the timer full-screen on a whiteboard.
- Customize: By default, the timer plays a chime and flashes the screen when the timer ends. Use the toggles on the left to change your preferences.
- Pause (the same button) holds the countdown. Reset returns the readout to the configured target without starting. Tap the readout, or press R or Esc, to dismiss the alarm.
Note: Browser timers and alarms can behave differently if a device sleeps, the tab is inactive, or sound is blocked. Test the timer or stopwatch on your classroom device before using it for exams, assessments, or timed activities.
Classroom Activities with a Timer
- Test time: Set 30 minutes and full-screen so every student can see exactly how long is left.
- Activity rotations: Set activities with 5 minutes per station. An alarm signals the switch.
- Quiet reading: 15 minutes, soft chime when done.
- Brain breaks: Set a 3-minute timer and get student feedback on what they're learning, or do a group relaxation. Full-screen readout for the whole room.
- Cooking and craft: Students see how long they have left, keeps everyone on task.
FAQs
Will the alarm wake the screen?
No. Most browsers will play sound only when the tab is active or recently interacted with. If your laptop sleeps, the alarm won't fire, so disable sleep mode for long timers.
Can I repeat the timer?
Sure. Hit the spacebar or press Start when the alarm sounds to begin the countdown again.
How long should I set the timer for?
Use teaching notes and resources to estimate how long your students will need for an activity. If you're running an activity for the first time, you can use our online stopwatch to measure how long it takes.
What if I just want to show the time?
Use our online analog clock in full screen to show the actual time in class. Good for longer exam sessions or a neutral background display while teaching.
